A seminar supported by UK Trade and Investment, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, China-Britain Business Council, and UK India Business Council to examine the competition arising from China and India, in particular, to the competitiveness of the UK and will take place in conjunction with the launch of the National Institute of Chinese Studies which is based in Leeds and Sheffield and is part of the White Rose East Asia Centre (WREAC).
The seminar will examine the competition arising from China and India, in particular, to the competitiveness of the UK. Informed by leading research experts and practitioners with experience of both China and India it will assess the appropriate strategy of UK businesses. Challenges arise not only from Asian countries as a base for low cost and increasingly high quality manufacturing and service provision but also from the spectacular growth of Chinese and Indian multinationals investing globally and in particular in the UK.

The seminar will include an analysis of global investment by Asian firms will be given by Professor Hafiz Mirza Chief Development Issues Section, DITE/UNCTAD, Geneva who is responsible for the oversight of the acclaimed UNCTAD World Investment Report. Professor Jeremy Clegg, of the National Institute of Chinese Studies and the Centre for International Business, University of Leeds (CIBUL) will provide insights on the the rise of the new Asian economies.
