The East Midlands China Business Bureau would like to express its concern and support for those affected by the recent earthquake in Sichuan province, China.

Jason Feehily, Head of East Midlands China Business Bureau, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the earthquake in South West China and the terrible loss of life. Our thoughts are with all those who have suffered, and with their families.

Communication is extremely difficult at this stage, but we are continuing to contact our partners and business colleagues in this area to establish whether they are safe.”

Leicestershire County Council, which is twinned with Sichuan province, has pledged to do whatever it can to help in the aftermath of the earthquake and has put the county’s Fire and Rescue service on stand-by to assist the region.

David Parsons, Leader of Leicestershire County Council has said: “We were shocked to hear of the devastation caused by the earthquake - although Leicestershire is separated by distance, we will do whatever we can to help at this difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone involved in or affected by this tragic event."
