Surexam expressed interests in working with UK companies on the following aspects:

Supply Chain – Surexam currently imports a large amount of protein and antibody from overseas. Due to difficulties in importing bio-material into China, they usually buy from Hong Kong agents. But quality of the product is not stable. Therefore, they are interested in establishing long-term links with UK suppliers, which enable them to ensure quality stability of the products.

Connection with UK institutes – No link with UK universities/ institutes has been established. They are interested in working with UK institutes in the product development under franchise agreement.

Established in July 2006, Surexam is a private-own companies with private investment from Chinese return scholars from the US. It has a sister company in US, also named Surexam. Surexam in Guangzhou employs a total of 20 staff.

The company specialises in diagnostic products for cancer (breast cancer & ovarian cancer), fertility, immunity and drug abuse. The technology platform for these products is “liquid chip”. Apart from their own product R & D team, Surexam also works closely with universities and research institutes, including Yale University, China Communication University, China No.4 Medical University, and Nankai University. The co-operation model is that Surexam usually acquire the patent of the technology for Asian or Chinese market and develop into products/manufacture in China. Most of the products will be re-export to US and Asian countries. However, their sales in China only account a very small percentage in their business volume.
