Basic Education
- 21180 kindergartens, primary and high schools with 11.15 million students enrolled
99.14 percent of the children for the ages of 6 to 12 are enrolled in primary schools. 96.26 percent complete primary education and 97.2 percent continue to junior high schools
99.14 percent from 13 to 15 years are enrolled in junior high schools
- In the southern part of Jiangsu, universal 12-year compulsory education has been practiced with 90 percent of the graduates from junior high schools enrolled by senior high schools
Higher Education
Jiangsu has the largest number of institutions of higher learning with an annual enrolment of 15 percent of the proper age group
- 105 universities and colleges
- Enrolment: 741,300 (89.37 percent of senior high school graduates)
- Applications for diploma and degrees through the examination for self-taught students: 1 million
Vocational and technical education
It has been promoted to serve the demands of local communities and to support the rapid development of the economy.
- 154 intermediate technical schools with 451,400 students enrolled
- 308 vocational schools and 190,900 enrolled students
Adult Education
The government aims to provide educational services and lifelong learning opportunities for the general public in a learner-friendly manner
- 29 adult higher education institutions with enrolment of 328,900
- 17381 adult vocational and technical schools with 5.11 million enrolled students
