ANNEX 5: FIGURES OF ZHEJIANG EDUCATION

Basic Education

  • 10,018 primary schools with 3.40 million enrolled students

enrolment rate is 98.47 percent

  • 2278 junior high schools with 607,200 enrolled students

enrolment rate is 97.67 percent

  • 75.12 percent of the children for the age of 3 to 5 are enrolled in kindergartens
  • 84.60 percent graduated from junior high schools enrolled by senior high schools
  • 100 provincial-level pilot kindergartens, 88 pilot primary schools and 77 pilot junior high schools

Higher Education

The aggressive development plans carried out by the provincial government have largely pushed forward high education in Zhejiang.

  • 72 higher education institutions with 484,600 students
  • 68.3 percentof high school graduates were admitted to universities
  • gross enrolment rate in higher learning institutions reached 25 percent
  • Applications for diploma and degrees through the examination for self-taught students: 1.25 million

Vocational and technical education

It has been developed coordinatively with high school education. The enrolment ratio between the two remains 1:1.

  • 58 provincial first-rate vocational schools and 24 key technical and industrial schools designated by the province of the Ministry of Education
  • 37 higher vocational schools with total enrolment of 83,000 students

Adult Education:

The government aims to provide educational services and lifelong learning opportunities for the general public in a learner-friendly manner

  • adult higher education enrolment of 223,600
  • adult technical schools and teaching stations are set up in over 30,000 villages, reaching 77 percent of the village schooling rate
  • 123 provincial pilot township adult technical schools
